English Version (readily available as I don’t trust Google Translator!)We woke up later than we planned but quickly made it on the road. Kim navigated, so the moment I knew where we going (No, I didn’t know before), I remember last time we got speed ticket on the tollway. Hence, driving slow(er) this time. As we turned off from Rangsit heading to Nakorn Nayok, traffic was bad but afterward ok. We speeded to make up for lost time (and after making sure no police around). Arrive at the hotel, check-in and get ready for the ride. I’ve been on this ride a few times and always enjoyed it. And WOW…there are a number of people today – busy hash! Seem like a lot of new riders. Can’t help but notice (and worry) that some of the new riders didn’t have proper gears / outfits on. I hope they made it all the way.Ride started. All the eager riders (FRBs) were out and, within 5km, we already lost the paper. Rode back a little bit, hares nicely hid paper on a narrow concrete bridge which leaded to single track! Long queue….So I hung back and started chitchatting. After crossing, beautiful scenery appears as well as MUD. Saw a new rider with casual wear shoe, I wished her good luck (and hope that it wasn’t expensive). May be hash website should list out appropriate outfit ;-) By the time we got to the first water stop, we literally...literally covered in mud! Waterstop was busy. Beside ‘amateur’ bikehashers, many professional mountain bikers were there to practice for Khao Ito Mountain Biking Competition tomorrow. Glad to see many Thais doing mountain biking. To me, the best bit started after 1st waterstop. Hares briefed different options to us (which confused me a little but thanked to them for being very considerate). My sister and I decided to go the longest way, not knowing what will be ahead. We took off and soon were on the nice shady trail which seems to be slowly up, up, up and up. Along the way, hares turned themselves into Central Banks and started to offer bail-out packages to the hashers… Bailout 1….then soon came Bailout 2. I have enough savings and was still enjoying the ride, so I didn’t take any packages and decide to go ahead, not knowing what ‘crisis’ might be ahead! ………….………….Ummm……maybe I should have taken the package……...…………..Ok it was tough but it was ridable. Gradient wasn’t so bad so I could ride, got off for resting (especially when seeing giant roots in front and my legs just stopped pedaling), enjoyed the scenery, hopped on for more ride. Trails got a little bit slippery toward the top but soon enough (which felt like forever then), we reached the top. Afraid that the downhill will be too technical, we took the ‘chicken-run’ and caught up with a group in front. Now I must say I was really impressed with how green the forest is. It just felt very peaceful. Wish this is my backyard. After a quick road ride, we turned into single track. I really enjoyed this combination of downhill and uphill which ended up on a beautiful lookout. Then continued on downhill and met local bikers coming up the opposite way. I realized this is the reverse of what we’ve done earlier but think I prefer this way. We got out of the bush, headed for 2nd water stop and continue our journey back to the resort. The last 10km was on tarmac, nothing technical which was a good way to end the ride today. Time for a cold beer!Thank you Andreas, Neung, and Sverre for an excellent bikehash.Mod (Dirty Hose).* * Welcome Hashers to this baby/child filled, mud covered downhill August issue of “The Write-Up” by Kim H!!Here it goes. It was a dark and stormy night, and ...... no it was ... it really was. It absolutely lashed it down!! It was a dark and stormy night and by the time day broke over Khao Yai the trail was nicely soaked. You just knew it was going to be a nice hash. People started trickling into the resort under a gloomy sky for what looked like a busy ride. Familiar faces returned from the summer break were joined by new faces to the Hash.Sure enough, when we rolled off, hash Cash confirmed 127 riders. Well, 126, the writer was too busy p$#ng about with tyres that appeared to have been attacked by a cactus. Still, a 40min head start for the “peleton” is manageable if you are keenly motivated by abandonment issues, ego and shame. This is not the start of a joke, but the first question of the day was 'how do you get 127, strike, 126 people and bikes over the Mekong spanned by only 2 narrow planks". The answer is two-fold (is suspect - I wasnt there!); "single file" and "with difficulty", but thankfully only one person fell off and was eaten by leaches. The authorities are still searching the area. And then it started, the knee deep puddles, well up to your toes, and mud just kept coming, but this stuff has to be good for the skin, right?! And even if you don’t like making big splashes in the water, you could still keep up a good pace and the scenery was fab.As I was bombing it along the benefits of cooler weather and the odd splash became apparent. I was joined by other late starters and we caught up with a few back markers. This was not a race, but a chase on the main group was on.Winding through the woods and trails we were pleased to catch up with the group at the waterstop. The group looked like Tour de France survivors of a mudslide, some merely knackered, others pedalling in on only one leg, but all were smiling.Preparation for a downhill race were by coincidence taking place in the same spot as the waterstop. Knackered and slightly dazed and confused I nearly entered. A latecomer to the H2O, I paused only briefly for intravenous M150 before heading up Khao Ito on the back trails. With Greecey trails and expecting major crashes, the hares had provided several bailout options. Needless to say the Germans didn’t like any of them and, so, we went straight to the top along the back trails. After a negotiating a technical and winding climb we made it to the top, and our prudent and conservative approach was rewarded with trails that went downhill faster than the Spanish housing market. All too soon the fun was over and we were back on the road, but THEN................ , there was more!!! Long flowing trails went down the mountain past a viewing point half way down. Some people, for reasons best know to themselves, had stopped to admire the view. Still this left the trails nice and clear. Sees Wood Gives Head overtook me for a second time on this section. This normally only happens once on a ride (at the beginning), so I was surprised to see him again, but he claimed this section was so mrewarding.uch fun that he did it again. Personally, I think he was just lost. All too soon the downhill was over, and this time there really was no more. We gathered back at the waterstop again to compare notes and injuries. After waiting for trailing spouses and girlfriends, we decided to leave them behind and proceeded to the on in. The trails and roads wound through emerald green countryside, and we soon could smell the beer and sandwiches back at the resort. All in all it was an about 46km ride. And every km very worth the effort. At dinner the usual conversation soon dried up as the trails were great. With the great number of "junior Hashers" around, the subject turned to if the young ones were going to grow up with a beer and bike addiction. Of particular concern was what little Sebastian (son son of Sees Wood Gives Head) would turn out like. What would he look like in 30 years time? Already making loud noises, extrovert, cheery, fascinated by big green bottles, blond, maybe catching the sun a little too easily and being "of significant stature" - See picture below for one possible outcome. Its worrying isn’t it!? Still, I wonder if Seb can learn to hold a tune?SundayIt was a dark and stormy night..... yes, again,......... and yes, it lashed it down, again, in the night. The trails were still nicely "moist" by the time the multi-generational crowd made it onto the trails. All types were riding. Young, old, fat (mostly), thin (tri-types), big bikes, small bikes, bikes with no pedals! Yes, Klingon was too cheap to get his son pedals!! Dylon effectively had to walk 6km on his strida. Well done Dylan. Several other Junior Hasher ventured.Out on the trails the patches of damp were welcome as it was a little warmer and the trails were again great. Fast, sweeping and off road. Just the way we like it on a Sunday. However, in getting the mud of the bikes the night before, and in turn, getting rid of the water that got rid of the mud i may have been a little generous on the WD40 and applied it to the break rotor and pads. Next thing I know, I find myself wishing the trails were a little less fast and sweeping having just “rear ended” Carpet Burn. Embarrassing. I don’t even know her that well! We both agreed not to talk about it.After being uncoupled it was on on towards the waterstop. At the check just before the waterstop, I picked wrong and checked right at the top of the hill. Bum! Always the way. After the waterstop it was a quick zip back to the resort along more great trail and some scenic road routes. Back to base, clean up the bike, relube the break pads, and then have a cold beer and a sandwich in the Circle. There was a number of outrageous namings, so much so that the newbies were looking nervous and thinking about their “digital footprint”. And let’s face it there is a lot to think about!! Best check.RA Stevie Blunder had a complete innocent in the circle for offences that she wasn’t around to make. But it’s the Hash, so therefore it’s a fair cop.Lilla correctly judged Pencil Flasher to be a raving lunatic and was looking worried.Sackashit was again in the Circle for reasons that, frankly, aren’t important. What is important (and hilarious) is that he was again the subject to the now customary sign of communal affection, that of a hail of (mostly) empties. [Public Service Announcement - throwing full cans isn’t acceptable. This can cause injury and death, but mostly, it’s just a waste of beer. Stop it!]As the Circle was dismissed we cleaned up, checked out and putting the hash here in the right season it meant that it was now time to go SHOPPING!!! All in all a perfect weekend.
